Does Your Home or Business Have A Mold Problem?

1/19/2022 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

    • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
    • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
    • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
    • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
    • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
    • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Top 3 Common Mistakes About Mold

3/24/2020 (Permalink)

A piece of drywall on the floor with mold growing on it. When you see mold in your home, the best thing to do is to not disturb it and call a professional restoration company.

Have you ever called “the experts” just to have each company give you different answers about mold?

Today we’re digging deep and answering the top 3 common mistakes and false claims customers hear all the time. We are setting the facts straight because it is important to know what to do in case you discover mold in your home or office. And trust us, we have heard them all!

Common mistake #1: Mold can be killed with bleach.

This is a big no-no. Although there are many great home remedies out there, you cannot “kill” mold with bleach. In fact, you can do a lot more harm than good. When bleach is poured over mold, it disrupts the mold and activates tiny particles called mold spores. These mold spores are airborne and can be in very unhealthy if inhaled. According to OSHA, “the use of a biocide, such as chlorine bleach, is not recommended as a routine practice during mold remediation.” The only way to reduce mold is to have restoration experts perform mold remediation.

Common mistake #2: Only black mold is dangerous

Even though black mold is very unhealthy, it is not the only mold that can raise health concerns. In fact, there are more than 100,000 species of mold spores known worldwide. Some of these species are not harmful at all, while others can be deadly. Who’s to say which is which when you have mold growing in your family room or work space. Overall, all mold should be left undisturbed and remediated the moment it is discovered.

Common mistake #3: Your home or office will be “mold-free”

This is a big misconception about mold. The truth is microscopic mold spores exist everywhere naturally, including indoors and outdoors. Because of this, it is impossible to remove 100% of mold. Take into consideration that these mold spores that are floating in the air can enter your home and office through A/C units, heaters, windows, doors, pets and even clothing.

The more facts you know about mold, the better off you will be in choosing the best restoration company for you. If you would like more information on mold growing in your living space, please do not hesitate to call the experts at 909-399-9057 SERVPROclaremontmontclair.com/ today.

Mold Grows Where You Least Expect It

3/6/2020 (Permalink)

An old, leaky, dirty water heater . This is a prime example of where mold can grow.

Picture coming home from a nice, long well-deserved vacation when suddenly you get a whiff of an unpleasant smell. The musty, wet odor of mold invades your nostrils while you frantically try and find where it's coming from. When the smell leads you to the water heater, you see that an ongoing leak has made the perfect bed for a colony of mold. Yikes! So, now what?

Although mold grows everywhere, having it grow inside your home is never good. Mold may be very unhealthy for you and everyone that lives in your home. When water damage is near, mold is not far behind if it isn’t taken care of immediately. In fact, mold will grow within 24-48 hours of a waterpipe leak. This also means anything else that can potentially leak in your home including the kitchen sink and behind the toilet.

Don’t let mold stress you out. The experts here at SERVPRO of Claremont / Montclair will eliminate the mold in your home or office. Our experienced technicians will always let you know the process in detail. We make it easy for you to understand what we’re doing every step of the way. Fuzzies Under the Kitchen Sink

5/23/2019 (Permalink)

From the looks of it, mold began growing right under this sink.

It seemed like the end of the road for this kitchen sink. After receiving a phone call explaining the damage under this sink, we went out to inspect it at once. After the musky smell had settled, the mold technicians found the green and black fuzzy stuff everywhere. We had our client sign some paperwork and got to work immediately.

After we contained the affected area, our technicians put on their PPE suits and masks and tackled the problem area. After some minor demolition (only the bottom of the sink) and a few air scrubbers to clean the air of mold spores, this kitchen was saved.

Mold can be found in moisture prone areas of the home and office including under sinks, ceilings (where pipes run through), water heaters and even behind the washer and dryer. Give us a ring at 909-399-9057 to schedule an inspection with us today.

Mold can grow anywhere. In fact, these microscopic mold spores occur naturally almost everywhere – including where we work and live. Whether it is a commercial building or a residential house, it is important to know that it is impossible to get rid of all mold from your home or business. The best thing to do for a mold problem is mold remediation. This process will reduce the mold spore count back to its baseline level or “natural state.”

Because some restoration businesses advertise and go as far as guarantee “mold removal,” consider these mold facts before falling for the other guys’ misconceptions:

  • Mold spores are microscopic and float through the air, entering your home through doors, windows or AC/heating systems
  • These mold spores can even hitch a ride indoors on your pet or clothing
  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture and when exposed to water, can quickly grow into colonies. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.

If you have a mold problem in your home or business, we can inspect and assess your property.
